(Family involvement in Early Literacy Development through the Arts)

This partnership provides a creative arts-integrated approach to teaching young children foundational literacy skills, with an emphasis on vocabulary development and reading comprehension. Teaching artists from the Latin Ballet of Virginia and Virginia Repertory Theatre use arts-based strategies and techniques in order to create a language – rich environment, in which young children can develop the social and academic skills for success in school. The learning is further supported in the home through the active participation of parents, as they learn new techniques for nurturing vocabulary and literacy development in their children.
