‘The Nutcracker’ Chronicles: In Virginia, a Nutcracker for Every State
If Patrick Henry said “Give me liberty or give me death” (there are doubts), he said it here in St. John’s Church. The State Capitol, dated 1788 and recently restored, is the second oldest in continuous use in America. The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts has the largest collection of Fabergé Imperial Easter Eggs outside Russia. I want to see these and other sights. At this stage of my “Nutcracker” tour and after a delayed flight, however, I confess I don’t have the energy. I love the view of a wide arc of the James River from my hotel room and go to bed before the performance.
