Patti LaBelle to Perform at Richmond CenterStage
RICHMOND – Richmond CenterStage announced today that world-renowned vocalist Patti LaBelle will take the stage at its 2nd Birthday Gala on Saturday, September 10, 2011. Ms. LaBelle’s career spans four decades, and she has won multiple Grammy Awards, American Music Awards, and was given the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award from the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in 2003. Earlier this year, the BET Network honored Ms. LaBelle as the 2011 recipient of the Legend Award for Lifetime Achievement. Ms. LaBelle replaces Bernadette Peters, who is unable to perform at CenterStage that evening due to new commitments she has made with the Broadway-bound production of Follies in early September.
Richmond CenterStage Executive Director Richard M. Parison, Jr. said, “While we are disappointed that Bernadette Peters has scheduling obligations in New York on September 10, we are thrilled to have legendary icon Patti LaBelle on stage to help us celebrate CenterStage’s second birthday.” He also added, “I know that Ms. LaBelle will electrify audiences and ring in the 2011-2012 performing arts season in a way that only she can!”
All tickets for the original performance will be valid for Patti LaBelle, but full refunds are available to fans that purchased their tickets through authorized retailers. Refunds are available at the original point of purchase.
Presented by Richmond CenterStage with SunTrust, Ms. LaBelle’s performance is part of the celebration of CenterStage’s 2nd Birthday. This special evening will include dinner, drinks, and dancing to the sounds of the Upper East Side Big Band after Ms. LaBelle’s performance. The gala and performance will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2011.

About Patti LaBelle: “Beautiful” simply does not describe the incomparable force known to the world as Patti LaBelle. As time continues to evolve, the soulful songbird’s name has become synonymous with grace, style, elegance and class. Belting out classic rhythm and blues renditions, pop standards and spiritual sonnets have created the unique platform of versatility that Ms. Patti is known and revered for.
In addition to her amazing career as an entertainer and entrepreneurial success, Ms. LaBelle’s work as a humanitarian is just as legendary. She remains an advocate for adoption, foster care, Big Sisters and the United Negro College Fund, among many other initiatives. While Ms. LaBelle's celebrated career is respected world-wide, she has also endured and survived personal strife. Within a 10-year period, she lost her mother, three sisters and best friend to diabetes and cancer. In 1994, LaBelle was diagnosed with diabetes and shortly thereafter became a spokesperson for the American Diabetes Association.
Patti’s business ventures include her own wig line, The Patti LaBelle Collection. She also released her fifth book and third cookbook in November 2008, Recipes for The Good Life, as well as an instructional cooking DVD, In the Kitchen with Miss Patti. The cookbook features recipes and anecdotes that reflect Patti's philosophy that good cooking and the love of entertaining come from the heart. More recently, Patti introduced a line of signature sauces and marinades called Lady Marmalade and launched a designer bedding collection with Macy’s, Patti LaBelle Home.
The same motivation that had Patricia Louise Holte blossom from a choir member to lead vocalist for Patti LaBelle & The Bluebelles and later Labelle, to a solo artist is the same energy that keeps her fire burning at six-three years young.
